Biography
In 1993 I got my PhD in Engineering Sciences (Biotechnology) by University of Minho (Braga, Portugal) and in Mars 2004 I was appointed Full Professor of University of Minho. My primarily research is related with food and environmental mycology with integration of polyphasic approaches for fungal identification. Since 1996 I am the head of Micoteca da Universidade do Minho (MUM) fungal culture collection and I was member of the executive board of WFCC from 2007-10 and Collection Officer of ECCO from 2003-06. Currently, I am the President of ECCO. I have been partner of Portuguese, EU and Brazilian research funding projects and evaluator in several funding agencies. I supervised 24 PhD and 30 MSc theses. I have more than 300 publications. I am Invited Professor in different Brazilian Universities. In Mars 2016, I was granted with “Professor Honoris Causa†title by University Federal of Pernambuco (UFPE, Recife, Brazil).
