Biography

Zhou has authored more than 420 publications, with total citations of > 20,000 and H-index of 76 based on Google Scholar, 65 based on Web of Science. More than 50 papers were published in the high profile journals, namely Science (3), Nature Climate Change (1), PNAS (8), Nature Review in Microbiology (2), Nature Communications (1), mBio (6), Ecology Letters (1), PLoS Genetics (1), PLoS Pathogens (1), and The ISME Journal by Nature Publishing Group (30). One of his papers, published in 1996, is among the 20 most cited papers (>2,300 times) in the history of Applied and Environmental Microbiology since 2008. Invited Talks. Since 1995, 410 talks were given for university seminars and international conferences in various countries, with more than 300 talks since last 10 years, including an ASM Divisional lecturer, and Australia Society for Microbiology Visiting Speaker for cruise lectures to various institutions, and Special keynote talk at Chinese Academy of Sciences under the special seminar series, \"Sciences and China\". Funded Projects Since moving from Oak Ridge National Lab to OU (2006), Dr. Zhou has had 32 projects in genomics and microbial ecology, and has received a total funding of >$27M.

Research Interest

Dr. Zhou established a Fellowship at the School of Environment, Tsinghua University, with main purposes to recognize excellent graduate students in microbial ecology and environmental science at Tsinghua University, and possibly award young microbial ecologists across China. Dr. Zhou also initiated the establishment of Global Water Microbiome Consortium (GWMC) as a platform to facilitate international collaboration and communication on research and education on global water microbiome studies
